We're going back to basics to cover one of the most common questions I get... How do I measure myself? What size should I make? Just like on the highstreet, sizing varys across brands and we should always be comparing our body measurements to the size chart on the pattern to make sure we make the right size. Knowing how to measure yourself is one of those pieces of assumed knowledge so in this series we're going to take it back to basics to check we all know what we're doing.
Now I understand Christmas Crackers may just be a British thing but the visual of looking around the table on Christmas Day and seeing the whole family sat around in the paper cracker hats is one I love... However in a bid to be more sustainable we've been shying away from buying Christmas Crackers but of course this results in no hats. So as I continue with my Christmas Sewing Projects today I've moved onto Reusable fabric Christmas Cracker Hats or Fabric Crowns if you prefer to call them. These are such a simple sewing project, and I've made the template available for free on my website so you can make some too! All the requirements/measurements are on there too along with a child size pattern as well.
To me fabric advent calendars are such a special thing, its such a tradition in our house and the kids love discussing what sort of things they'd like in theirs each year as we do a mix of a few small toys are sweets/chocolates. They're a really easy thing to sew too, I've made a fair few now as a lot of my friends have been given them for their kids too but the panels give you all the information you need on how to put them together. Usually though its quite a lengthy process prepping and sewing on all the pockets, and then I saw this panel from Makower and wowsers this was so quick compared, I don't know why they all aren't done this way! This panel is the Christmas Wishes panel from Makower. There are lots of different designs of advent calendar panels though depending on your preference its well worth taking a look.
In one of my earlier video's I tackle adding both corded and flat piping to your seams but I was asked specifically following that about how to manage it around curves. Here are a few little tips/tricks from me on how I manage this.

I've uploaded 2 versions of this video, one with a voiceover and one with the original sounds so let me know which one you prefer! This would be easy to adapt for any size device you wanted it to fit, you just want the boards to be slightly larger than the device and the fabric sleeve needs to be able to fit the boards.
