After 2 months of crocheting and 278 flowers later the Daisy Chain Dress by Realm Designs is finally finished!

I am as in love with it as I thought I would be. I'm excited to try it over lots of other pieces from my wardrobe, it's a really fun styling piece.

I used a 4mm hook and cotton Paintbox yarn in aran weight (the pattern calls for dk but the stylecraft I had in my stash was a more similar thickness to the Aran than the Paintbox dk so I went with it) I used around 15 balls to get it to this size and length.

Happy World Book Day!
I know the dressing up for it is a bit like marmite but we love bringing the books to life and their whole school gets really involved so it's a fun day.
I try to keep costumes as pieces that can be mixed and matched so they get more use out of it, last year's dragon wings for example have been worn many a time when they're playing and I'm sure my daughter will wear this dress many a time over.

I self drafted her dress using another dress of hers as a size guide and then put a half circle skirt on. The fabric is Hello Spring Spots in Lilac from Makower with some pink satin from my stash for the sash.

The Balaclava/hood is a free pattern from Yarnspirations it's the Red Cozy Crochet Ribbed Hood Pattern (and it's a fab make even without the tentacles). I used 3 balls of the King Cole Big Value in wine.

The mini slug pattern is from Etsy by VliegendeHollander in some dk from my stash.

I then just used some mount board and a small piece of wood for the sign.
I find with costumes if you can just create a few details so that they feel they look like what you're aiming for it'll be a winner.

Now I'm calling it pattern matching but these side seams aren't straight so we won't get a true matchup/invisible seam on the sides so what I'm trying to do here is line up the horizontal stripes because if you didn't it would look weird.

I know a lot of people avoid fabrics like this because you have to do this so I'm hoping these tips will have you wanting to give it a go.

This beautiful fabric is from Fabric Godmother and it's a brushed cotton mix coating. I purchased this piece from Sew Creative Petersfield. Now even though the fabric description has it down as a coating I think it's going to make the most amazing Ally Shift Dress so that's what I'm making, and I've been working on a sleeve pattern for it so my plan is to try out one of those too.

Sometimes all you need is a needle, some thread and an hour of peace and quiet.

Now I'm using the wrong stabiliser here (although fortunately at least it worked) but what you want is a water soluble embroidery stabiliser. I've seen some that even stick on which would have made this even easier. Choosing the right embroidery stabiliser is half the battle to making these sorts of jobs easier and there are so many options out there.

I needed a new crochet project to keep my restless hands at bay and then remembered seeing the beautiful Daisy Chain Dress from Realm Designs... so to start this year that's the project on my lap.

Its mid February, so i'm weaving in some of the many many ends on this project and giving you a progress update on where i'm at. I think i'm probably off pace and running a little slower than i aimed for but it is what it i, i'll try and get myself back on pace next week.

I'm starting a New Series where I'm going to throw a spanner into some of the rules/myths/theories that you may have been previously taught.

Episode 2 is about pressing seams... because contrary to belief you don't have to always press your seams open.
In fact, there are lots of occasions where you're better off not pressing them open and instead pressing them to one side is better.
Now, Quilters please don't come at me I'm aware that pressing open to reduce bulk is often your best bet to get a clean flat finish but interlocking side pressing can be super helpful even in quilting.

But I believe if you're going to default to any type of pressing rule (and remember there are always exceptions to rules) then your best bet is press them to together and to the front.

It's advent calendar season, I've gone for the one

It's advent calendar season, I've gone for the one from the @crochet_society this year, who else is working on this and if you aren't what have you gone for?

Trying to get my tension right was the biggest challenge on this first bit but I figured it'd be worth getting it right as the rest of the blanket will be setup from here so I am glad I went back and loosened it up.
I'm just hoping I can keep up with it each day.
I won't be sharing daily updates, I don't think I could keep up but I'll share the finished blanket at the end.

The very much requested ReUsable Christmas Crackers Tutorial.
If you'd rather a full written version I have it available for purchase on my website or Etsy.

I hope you love these as much as I do, I have spent a lot of time trying to get them just right so they have enough space for lovely treats but still really functional.
You could add a cracker snap inside too for a fully authentic experience.

The dimensions of the pieces you need are
Heavy Fusible interfacing: 1 piece at 18x18cm and 2 pieces at 17x6cm.
Fabric: 1 piece that's 20x40cm and 2 pieces at 19x32cm.
Velcro: 2cm wide. 1 side cut to 18cm, the other side cut to 17cm and then slice both down the middle vertically to give you 2 pieces.
Ribbon: 2 pieces 30cm long.

Invisible mending to save the winter wear when it comes out of storage with moth holes.

The real trick here is a good colour match, tiny stitches and less is more here, too much stitching will lead to a bulky repair.

I finally finished my summer project... The crochet sunflower granny square cardigan.

This has been such a labour of love and although I've been crocheting for years it is one of the first garments I've done and flaws and all I'm super proud of it.

FPP or Foundation Paper Piecing is one of my favou

FPP or Foundation Paper Piecing is one of my favourite scrap buster and I have enjoyed making many a quilt top this way.

I would love all these trees lined up to make a table runner for the festive season, how cute would that look!

If you've never come across it or been too scared to try let this be your push to give it a go. I have a few patterns on my website/Etsy shop but there are so many wonderful FPP designers out there so give it a search on Etsy.

If you haven't watched "Measuring yourself" head to that video first because in this video we are taking those measurements and using them to help us choose the right size from the pattern.

This is a woven fabric pattern, the wearing ease for stretchy garments is different but because of the stretch the sizing is a lot more flexible.

Please note this is a beginner look at sizing, there are so many ways to make this even more personalised but for those just starting out this is the way to look at it and always the best way to start.

Some patterns won't have a full chart with the finished measurements there but they should be noted somewhere in the instructions/envelope/pattern pieces.
